This week was American Rugby’s Hollywood moment.
It was created on Saturday and Sunday. Two World Rugby sanctioned championships!! One on home soil.
A unique opportunity presented itself for anyone responsible for marketing our brand. I envisioned Good Morning America, The Today Show. Any of them. A feature in a major publication or Sports Illustrated cover.
Sometimes in business we have what I call 24/7 moments. It’s all hands on deck. Do whatever it takes to accomplish whatever we need to do, I.e., the mission.
Last weekend was RIM’s 24/7 moment.
Outcome: There is zero national coverage on either of these Championships.
This is the standard we may have been used to for Rugby in America, they are no longer tolerable.
People have referred to me as divisive, toxic, and other inaccurate terms. My standards are relentless for American rugby.
A world-class marketing company would be up all night, every night marketing this success immediately to whomever would listen.
The disappointment I feel towards RIMs failure in this 24/7 moment is significant. The missed opportunities continue to mount.

The person responsible for the RIM investment and its effect on USA Rugby is the USAR Chairman of the Board.
Please support those who can initiate and vote for the absolute required change in the USAR/RIM relationship and the personnel involved. This can wait not another day.

Absolutely mind boggling! So . . . who are those that can initiate and vote for the absolute required change in the USAR/RIM relationship and the personnel involved? Hell, I thought after the Olympics there would be a dramatic increase in all kinds of media coverage, but to my sad lament it hasn’t happened, and Rugby continues to be one of the least followed sports in the USA. To my chagrin you weren’t elected to the Board, and now Dan is stepping down due to him being a father and his children needing him at home instead of seeing him travel all over the world for Rugby events. Many have said that Rugby is growing in the states . . . maybe in the number of those playing the game, but not in the media . . . like where is the ‘shot in the arm’ the Olympics was suppose to give Rugby in the states . . . yikes, we’re still in a ‘backyard’ frame of mind when it comes to getting the media involved so that Rugby will be ‘In the hearts and minds of every American’ in the USA!
I caught the USA 7s on one of the ESPN spin-off channels (streaming it via my Apple TV) – so not sure if it was widely broadcast, but it was an epic moment for USA 7s as they utterly dominated the competition on this weekend – including wins over Australia, Fiji, and England. At times, they even made their opponents looks hapless and helpless — like I’ve seen USA teams look all too often. It was, in short inspiring, and we need to get that footage out far and wide!
Even though the event was “:broadcast” on ESPN 3, I was shocked when I turned on Sportscenter on Monday morning and they did show Perry Baker’s 100 meter try against Fiji in the Top Plays segment…
